BRING MANDARIN INTO THE DAY

Small moments. Meaningful connections.

01Everyday connection

A response can begin without words.

When your child answers in English, acknowledge the meaning and respond with a natural Mandarin sentence. Leave a pause, making room for a gesture, a point or a single word.

02Shared reading · N1 onwards

Make shared reading a conversation.

Choose a picture your child enjoys. Share “I notice…” or “I think…”, then listen to their discoveries. One page can become a story you explore together.

03Hands-on discovery

Give little hands everyday practice.

With adult supervision and suitable large materials, invite drawing, shaping, tearing and sticking. Talk about colours, positions and choices to connect making with Mandarin.

04Confidence in expression

Leave room for the end of a thought.

When your child begins a story, listen before responding to the meaning. Offer a simple prompt if needed, making speaking an experience of being heard.

YOU MAY BE WONDERING TOO

Common questions, thoughtful answers.

What if my child says “no” to Mandarin?

Begin with a topic or activity they enjoy and reduce quiz-like questions. Offer a natural Mandarin phrase, then respond to their meaning so the language stays connected with a pleasant interaction.

Can I help if my own Mandarin is limited?

Start with simple words, a song or a familiar book you feel comfortable with. Listening and discovering together can be easier to sustain than aiming for perfect sentences.

What if my child only watches in a new place?

Allow time to observe. Explain simply what will happen and share familiar comforting routines with the educator. Participation can begin with one small response.

How can I notice progress without testing characters?

Notice willingness to join in, use of familiar words or a small discovery your child describes. Record specific moments rather than comparing with other children.
